Evaluation & Procedure
Before beginning the Wilckodontics procedure, we will administer a local anesthetic to ensure you experience minimal discomfort along with dental sedation, if necessary. We offer oral and IV sedation as an option if you might be nervous about the procedure or have concerns about the length of the procedure.
Once you are sufficiently numbed and comfortable, the Wilckodontics procedure will begin by removing part of the external surface of your alveolar bone in order to soften the bone and speed up the process of teeth reaching their ideal positions. Along with speeding up this orthodontic treatment time, frequently a bone graft will be placed as part of the procedure and will result in the volume of the alveolar bone increasing over time once the healing process is complete.
Following the Wilckodontics procedure, it may be necessary to arrange for a ride home if dental sedation is administered. We recommend this person be a family member or friend to care for you afterwards. It is also normal to experience some pain and swelling after your procedure. Over the counter pain relieving medication like Ibuprofen and application of ice to the swollen or tender area for fifteen to twenty minute intervals is usually sufficient in managing pain and swelling. If pain medication or antibiotics are prescribed following your Wilckodontics procedure, take as prescribed until your prescription is done.

Benefits of Procedure
There are many reasons why Wilckodontics has become an increasingly popular treatment option and alternative to traditional braces, which includes the following:
- Improved stability of teeth with long lasting results
- Same results in far less time compared to traditional braces
- Increases strength of alveolar bone
- High success rate and low procedural risk
- Eliminates or reduces the need for jaw surgery or tooth extraction
- Softened jawbone results in movement of teeth to be less uncomfortable
- Can be performed on most patients
- Final result is a straight and healthy-looking smile
While there are numerous benefits to having the Wilckodontics procedure performed instead of pursuing other treatment options, the overwhelmingly biggest benefit that patients who have Wilckodontics done is how much faster orthodontic treatment can occur. The reduction in time required to straighten teeth is especially important to patients who are in middle school or high school. Oftentimes patients in this demographic will schedule this procedure towards the end of the school year or right at the beginning of summer. Scheduling the Wilckodontics procedure at this time allows them to become accustomed to wearing braces and reduces the total amount of time they have to wear braces in front of their peers, which can help reduce or eliminate feelings of anxiety of self-consciousness.

Am I A Good Candidate?
Although most patients are good candidates for Wilckodontics (provided all of your adult teeth have grown in), it will be necessary to schedule an initial consultation to determine if Wilckodontics is the optimal treatment option for you. Provided you are a viable candidate to have this procedure performed, Wilckodontics is highly recommended for younger patients who feel self-conscious about wearing braces, older patients (especially business professionals) who want straighter teeth but are concerned about the impact wearing braces as an adult may have on their professional career, or anyone whose life would benefit from straighter teeth, and for whom a faster treatment time is more valuable.
