As periodontists, Dr. Nathan Hodges and Dr. Kimberly Sheppard have extensive advanced training in treating gum disease, placing dental implants, and rebuilding the bone around the teeth and gums. They are also trained in cosmetic and corrective gum procedures.
For patients needing dental implant treatment, we guide the entire procedure, including the placement of the final restorations. They work with excellent partner dentists who create high-quality crowns, bridges, and dentures to attach to the implants that they place. Learn more about our dental implant services.
Minimally invasive treatments using advanced technology
We use advanced technology to ensure your treatments get optimal results and are minimally invasive. Our technology and procedures also make your treatment far more comfortable and with faster healing time than with less advanced techniques.
Advanced 3D imaging makes treatment faster and less invasive
We use high-tech digital X-rays and a 3D cone beam CT scanner to get detailed images of your teeth, gums, and jaw structure. With these images, we precisely plan your implant placement ahead of the appointment for surgery. We can then place your implants quickly and with no or minimal incisions.
We also use CT scan images to plan exactly where to do bone grafts before we start the procedure. This makes bone grafting faster, far less invasive and speeds healing time.
Non-surgical gum treatment using the Perioscope
We treat most cases of moderate to severe gum disease completely non-surgically by using the Perioscope. The Perioscope is a revolutionary, tiny camera that enables us to see deeply buried plaque and calculus deposits, that before the Perioscope would have required exploratory surgery to see. Using the Perioscope, we thoroughly remove these deposits with our scaling instruments.
Dr. Hodges has been recognized by D Magazine as one of the “Best Dentists in Dallas” for 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2014. He has also been recognized as a “Texas Super Dentist” in Texas Monthly magazine for 2004 and 2006 – 2014.
Besides taking care of his patients, Dr. Hodges is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Graduate Periodontics at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry. He also regularly lectures to his colleagues on the latest periodontal techniques and trends at colleges, professional association meetings, and continuing education courses.
Friendly, caring doctors and staff
Dr. Hodges and Dr. Sheppard are very caring and listen to what you have to say. They will thoroughly explain everything in a way you can understand easily, and we will answer all of your questions so you can make well-informed decisions about your options.
Our friendly staff will greet you warmly and make sure you have a relaxing experience.
We’ll make sure you are comfortable
Your comfort is a priority in everything we do. Our minimally invasive treatments are far more comfortable than traditional methods and have faster healing times. We make sure the environment is relaxing and that you feel at ease. We offer blankets and pillows for your comfort during treatment. We use a topical anesthetic prior to giving injections to remove any initial sensation, and then the injections are given slowly and gently.
We also have sedation options for anxiety or long procedures. We do everything we can to make your experience pain-free.
Who should see a periodontist?
Periodontists are specialists trained in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. They are highly trained in procedures to replace missing bone and gum tissue surrounding the teeth.
General dentists refer patients to us for specialist gum treatment and for implant placement and treatment. We also see patients who come to us directly.
