Full mouth dental implants provide a stable, natural feeling solution that is ideal for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth; however, there are many things to consider when deciding whether full mouth dental implants are right for you. While advancements in dental technology have made dental implants a viable option for more and more patients, there are instances when a patient’s jawbone has deteriorated too much or there is an underlying health condition that precludes them from being a good candidate for this procedure.
At Northeast Texas Periodontal Specialists, we offer a range of implant-based solutions for missing teeth, including full mouth dental implants. Treatment Plan & Procedure
The process of getting full mouth dental implants will take place over multiple visits. During your initial examination, we will perform a thorough examination to determine if you are a viable candidate for full mouth dental implants and address any underlying issues that need to be corrected before the procedure can be performed, such as tooth extraction or bone grafting. We will also take 3-D x-rays using a dental CBCT scanner, which allows us to determine the number of implants needed and the optimal placement of these implants. We will also use these images with a special software to create a surgical guide to ensure the implant is precisely inserted into the pre-planned position. Provided you are viable candidate, impressions of your new teeth will be made, and a follow-up appointment will be scheduled.
Your full mouth dental procedure will begin with administration of a local anesthetic to ensure you do not feel any discomfort as well as oral or IV sedation, if necessary. Once you are numbed and comfortable, the procedure will begin. First, we will make an incision in your gum, then prepare the bone where your implant will be placed using the Piezosurgery instrument. Unlike conventional instruments, Piezosurgery uses ultrasonic vibrations to precisely cut bone without affecting the nerves, blood vessels, skin, or gum tissue.
Once the hole has been made in the bone and the implants placed, we will position your temporary restoration, which you will use during the healing process. It will take several months for the titanium posts (dental implants) in your jaw to fully integrate with your jawbone (osseointegration). Once this process of osseointegration is complete, you will return to our office one final time before your permanent restoration will be placed by your dentist. After the crowns have been placed on the implants, our office will check the gum tissues around the crowns. We want to check to ensure that your bite looks and feels comfortable and aligns with the adjacent teeth then your full mouth dental implant process will be complete!
